Privacy & Confidentiality Policy

At Inner Edit, your privacy and confidentiality are our top priority. We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

1. Confidentiality

All information shared in counselling or hypnotherapy sessions is treated as strictly confidential. This includes personal details, session notes, and any communications you have with your therapist.

Your information will not be shared with anyone without your written consent, except in the following rare circumstances required by law:

• There is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others

• There is a legal obligation to disclose information (e.g., court subpoena)

• There is reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable individual

In these cases, your therapist will make every effort to discuss the situation with you before any information is shared.

2. Collection of Personal Information

We collect personal information such as your name, contact details, and relevant background or health information to provide appropriate and effective therapeutic services. This information may be gathered through intake forms, bookings, and session notes.

3. Storage and Security

Your information is securely stored in compliance with Australian data protection standards.

• Digital records are password-protected and encrypted.

• Paper records (if any) are kept in locked storage.

• Only your therapist(s) at Inner Edit have access to your client file.

Records are generally retained for 7 years (or, if you are under 18, until 7 years after you turn 18) in accordance with professional and legal requirements, after which they are securely destroyed.

4. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you

• Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete information

• Withdraw consent for communication or data collection at any time

Requests can be made in writing to your therapist and will be handled promptly and respectfully.

5. Communication & Online Sessions

If sessions are held online or via phone, every effort is made to ensure privacy and security. However, clients are advised that no online platform can guarantee absolute confidentiality. We recommend joining sessions in a private, secure environment.
